Japanese PM's official visit to Sri Lanka

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who arrived in Sri Lanka with a special delegation on an official visit yesterday was received by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and a special government delegation, at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake.

His visit is in response to an invitation extended by President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his official visit to Japan last year.

The Japanese Prime Minister also participated in a ceremony held at the BIA to inaugurate construction work on a new airport terminal.

The official welcome ceremony with state honours was accorded to the visiting Japanese Prime Minister at the Presidential Secretariat. This was followed by bilateral talks between Japanese Prime Minister Abe and President Rajapaksa to further strengthen and cement friendly relations between the two countries.

The Japanese Prime Minister also visited Parliament on an observation tour and was accorded a special ceremony organised by Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa and Parliamentary delegates.

The Sri Lanka -Japan business community meeting was also held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel with the participation of the Japanese Prime Minister to expand Japan-Sri Lanka investment opportunities.
